Your opinion on Rumtrades

Hi there,
since a while we see a new auction site in operation - Italian based Rumtrades.
Fees are pretty similar to Rumauctioneer without the GBP to EUR hazzle.

In their last auction I saw some bottles actively listed, but when viewing the result on the next day those weren’t visible anymore. This was - among others - the case of a Skeldon 73 I saw standing at 12.000€. Not that I care about this specific bottle…

My question: Is there any experiency buying at Rumtrades? Is it a reliable business?
Regards, Joachim

Hey,

Yes, I already bought there and it went smoothly. I think the bottles are not anymore visible because they were under the reserve price.

An absolute disgrace! They put a leaking bottle up for sale. The description mentioned “leaking,” but since I’m not very good at English, I didn’t understand what it meant! There was no warning sign or anything like “be careful”!! The reserve price was €1,800 per bottle, excluding fees! I only realized there was a problem after the sale had ended! I tried to get the sale cancelled—to no avail—and asked for a goodwill gesture for future purchases; instead, they only offered me a budget to sell my bottles, but I don’t have any bottles to sell…
I asked to resell the bottle at the same price. One of the executives, Mr. Mancini, told me I would be able to resell it for the same amount. I asked to set a reserve price of €1,800. Across 7 auctions, the price fluctuated between €700 and €1,440… They certainly know how to value bottles! I eventually asked for it to be shipped, and the inevitable happened… the bottle lost at least 10 cl of liquid!!! It’s unbelievable!!! To knowingly sell a leaking bottle—with a reserve price above market value—that has to be shipped!!! I wrote to Mr. Mancini yesterday morning and haven’t received any reply!!! These people are, at the very least, unprofessional—if not downright dishonest!!!
Stay away! My advice: don’t buy anything from them, or at least nothing of high value!!!

Hi!:+1: :ok_hand:

I have positive experience, bought some stuff, everything was professional.

I’m really sorry about that and it’s definitely frustrating… But buying a bottle for 1800€ without reading the offer or understanding its content isn’t really smart either. There’s Google Translate or similar tools. I can’t judge everything that happened after that. Not even what kind of goodwill might have been possible or necessary. Maybe you can split the rest of the bottle!?

I’ve also already bought two bottles marked as »leaky«.

The bottles were additionally wrapped twice for shipping and arrived in good condition.

There’s always some residual risk, and actually the price shouldn’t be too high then.

What kind of bottle was it?

Maybe a split is the best option. @ltixier63

So I’ve also only had good experiences with RumTrades so far and honestly can’t see any misconduct here. It was clearly pointed out that the bottle was leaky, and it’s not RumTrades’ fault that nobody else bid €1800 for it. I see it the same way as my predecessors here — you have to take responsibility yourself. I also don’t really believe that 10cl was lost during transport; the bottle must have been properly packaged (see Rumurmel). I can understand your frustration, but it should be directed at yourself, and I don’t think it’s fair to call for a boycott of the platform here. My 2 cents.

Hey, some people here just bought an empty box. :person_shrugging:

I cannot share your point of view. I know that they clearly mark leaking bottles as such. If you don‘t understand what ‚leaking‘ means, you should have looked it up with a translation tool prior to bidding (even more so with a high-value bottle).

My experience with RT so far has been positive. They act professionally.

Your auction was already in January.

CARONI 1984 22 YEARS OLD 54,6% VELIER - FULL PROOF (LEAKING)

I think you’ll get those distributed here in the split. @ltixier63

I’ve also bought several bottles from rumtrades before. Everything always went well and was well packaged.

I understand that 1800 euros is quite a sum to learn the word “leaking,” but as @Rumurmel already mentioned, empty boxes have been bought before, and that’s not a rumtrades phenomenon but happens regularly on eBay and other platforms too.

Look at it positively: This definitely won’t happen to you again

Maybe we should open a new thread.

My biggest mistake when shopping around.

or

My own fault and what I learned from it.

Sorry about that.

I only used Rum Trades for the first time recently and everything went fine. My only gripe was that I didn’t properly read how the end of auction works, thinking I had won with amazing prices!.. only to end up stressing late into the night wondering if I’m going to get the bottles I want or not!:sweat_smile:
