Welcome. I am Oliver, the founder of RumX. This thread is the orientation map for new members and a refresher for old ones. Five years in, we are over 50,000 members, 7,300 posts in the last 30 days, and a real backbone for what RumX does. So before you scroll into the chaos, here is how to get the most out of it.
What this community is for
Three things, in order:
- Talk rum with people who actually drink it. Not points, not hype. The flagship threads (Rum Talk: What’s in your glass today?, Just opened rum bottles, New rum purchases) are where the daily life happens.
- Find rare bottles together. Rare rums radar and our Bottle splits & samples category exist so you do not need to drop €400 on a sealed bottle to find out it is not your style. Split it. Taste it. Decide later.
- Tell us what is broken or missing. The Feedback category is read every Monday. Of the 238 threads in there, a lot have already shipped into the app. Keep them coming.

Two things that are different here
The forum is connected to the RumX app. Every bottle you mention has a profile, ratings, and (often) a place to buy it. If you are not on the app yet, that is the missing half: catalogue 30k+ rums, log your tastings, get personalised recommendations.
Trust comes first. This is one of our core principles. We will not push you to buy. We will push you to taste before you buy, to read three reviews before you commit, and to split a sample first if you are unsure. The marketplace is here so the community has a fair way to source bottles, not so we hit a number.
Three small rules
- Be the friend at the bar. Direct, helpful, no corporate filler. We assume good faith.
- Concrete > vague. „Hampden funk, slightly soapy" beats „a symphony of aromas". Numbers, ABVs, vintages, cask numbers if you have them.
- Deutsch ist auch willkommen. Most threads run in English so the international crew can follow, but German posts are fine and we have a Stammtisch corner (Geburtstagsgrüße, Saufen und Laufen 2026) for the deutschsprachige Community.
Your first move
Introduce yourself in the New members category. Each newcomer gets their own welcome thread there, so the community can say hi back properly. Three things to share if you do not know where to start:
- Where you are based
- One rum you love and one you want to try next
- (Optional) what brought you to RumX
If you just want to drop a quick hello here, also fine.
I read every introduction. Looking forward to drinking with you.
