Very interesting to see a premium Zacapa here! My knowledge about Zacapa relies only on their basic “12”, “23” and the general accusation about sugaring and other additives. Let us know your thoughts about this rum! Is it also a sweet one or something completely different?

Armagnac Newbie here, is that a good bottling and why should one buy it?
Only had the Tariquet 12 so far and while I found it to be tasty and good, it didn’t wake my fancy for Armagnac. But my experience is limited…

I wouldnt buy a Bottle for 175€ without knowing if I even like armagnac in general. Maybe you can get some Samples first 
I only have 2 open bottles of armagnac to Sample, so maybe try contacting Sascha Junkert from Armagnac.de himself. He is extremely nice to talk to and very helpful and really has a wide variety of armagnac available. (Also deep knowledge about Rum, so if you tell him your preferred rum profile he will be able to make an educated guess on which armagnac you might like)

Der Ron Zacapa teilt die Gemüter.
Ich bin ein Fan, auch, weil er mir den Weg zum „Premium“ - Rum eröffnet hat.
Wobei ich sagen muss, dass gerade die verschiedenen Veröffentlichungen des Zacapa XO starke Schwankungen im Geschmack mit sich gebracht haben.
Die Heavenly Cask Collection (La Doma, El Alma) finde ich gut.
Aber, dass dies Geschmackssache ist, wird bei den Bewertungen sichtbar.

Ich denke der Armagnac Hype ist deshalb so immens da es vergleichsweise alte Fässer gibt mit nem akzeptabelen Preis Niveau, wobei ich mir auch nicht ne ganze Flasche so leisten kann. Aber zum Glück gibt es die schönen Flaschenteilungen um den doch solche schönen Tropfen verkosten zu dürfen.

Man darf aber nicht vergessen, dass Cognac/Armagnac meist deutlich länger gereift wird als Rum oder Scotch. 1985er sind ja eher noch jugendlich 
Hab zB meinem Vater einen Vallein Tercinier von 1940 in CS zum 75. geschenkt und hab um die 300€ gezahlt.

That quote is just one year old In general, I think it is still very true! You can find amazing value in Armagnac (and Cognac), especially old vintages. But of course, as more people become aware of it, the less stock remains. Luckily I think we still have a lot of years ahead of us, before we reach the craziness of Rum.

Sadly not. Been asking Gerard Mansouaf how to get it and apparentely it was sold on the Nobilis homepage, but you needed a code, which only RoA members received.
Would have loved to try that 2005 SV.
