Sehe ich ganz ähnlich. Wenn man Alter, tropische Reifung und den aktuellen Markt berücksichtigt, ist das sehr im Rahmen. Im Vergleich zu manchen „Rare Casks“ oder den Herrline-Sachen wirkt das hier sehr fair kalkuliert.

Both Herrline releases were actually fairly priced, provided the shops stuck to the RRP. The first one was around €200, which scales to €280 for a 70cl bottle. The second was approximately €185, or about €260 for 70cl. Given how scarce Herr is, these prices seem pretty fair to me.
Furthermore, knowing Mika from Swell, he belongs to that group of bottlers, much like The Whisky Jury, who consistently fight to secure the best possible prices for the end consumer. The ‘bad press’ regarding the pricing of the Herrline mostly stems from the fact that it was incredibly hard to find; some retailers exploited the hype to inflate their margins, and the secondary market did the rest. In my opinion, this isn’t a fair example of an overpriced release."

Sorry for being off topic again, just wanted to add: I remember buying two discounted bottles of RX7316 (10y tropical ageing + additional continental ageing) for 90€ each and that wasn’t that long ago.

I didn’t say they were cheap, I said they tried to have the best price for their customers. But I’d say quality/price ratio is pretty good for both…

I’m enjoying this discussion, it’s hard to get certain bottles over to the UK without being penalised because of Brexit. So, the more expensive ones £200+ bottles are priced out of my budget because of the tax and duty. I welcome expensive bottles becoming readily affordable.

Still i think at the moment it makes more sense to wait and look for older quality bottlings, because the prices of the new bottlings are insane at some point. And the quality not that much better or even worse, when you look at TDL 2001-2003, Caroni or Hampden for example. Samples of new releases i am in, a bottle i mostly don’t need anymore. I chill and wait that an opportunity comes my way. As it was said earlier, there are so many IBs and bottlings in the past years. I think most of the good stuff is already out there. That there are so many very young rums 2-5y with Cask Finish for to much money says it all. Are there unicorns and rare gems to find here and there .. Like Cask #991 … Sure. But not that many anymore. I like this topic and your opinions about what was and will come next in the Rum world. Keep it coming

I am collecting rare & quality bottles for my own pleasure. I collect samples too, happy to taste the history, one by one, years to come. And their value will certainly grow. World is in chaos right now, how one can expect unique stuff be valued adequately? But situation will change to better, sooner or later (I expect rather later), it always did change in the history. This is a life long run:)

Habe die HTR ebenfalls angeboten bekommen. Vermutlich gibts davon keine Handvoll mehr. Aber der LOA Preis war schon knackig.

Ich glaube nicht, dass die in absehbarer Zeit an Wert gewinnt oder verliert. Das Zeug hat seine Hater (verstehe ich) als auch seine Fans (verstehe ich weniger). Gib sie weg und hol dir davon dann Rum.

Haha Danke für den Rat - ist schon in Planung. Alte, schwere Demeraras dürften wohl begehrter sein. Obwohl ich gestehen muss, dass es bei DP ein paar Abfüllungen gibt, die dich auch beeindrucken könnten

Klar, die ungereiften, dauerhaft erhältlichen gibt es immer mal wieder günstig. Bei den limitierten Abfüllungen / Single Casks halte ich aber die Preise für stark Hype-getrieben. Manche behaupten, das hängt mit der langen, tropischen Reifung zusammen, aber…
RX21163, 17y tropisch: ca. 100 USD
RX15629, 18y tropisch: ca. 100 EUR
RX7316, 10y tropisch + 3y kontinental: 100 EUR
Quasi jeder neuere FS ECS mit 12-16y tropisch: um die 100 EUR

Und dann gibts noch Leute wie mich, die den Hype und die Begeisterung für Savanna noch nie richtig nachvollziehen konnten.
Ja, der HERR damals war krass und er hatte mich auch kurzzeitig geflasht, aber ich empfand ihn letztlich als One Trick Pony, der mich ab dem spätestens dritten Glas gelangweilt hat. Habe damals sowohl meine offene, als auch meine geschlossene Flasche weggegeben, aus heutiger Sicht für’n Appel und ‘n Ei
