Rum Talk: What‘s in your glass today?

By the way, is the cork as heavy as it looks or is that plastic?:grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: That’s one seriously awesome device.

that gives the phrase »on the rocks« a completely new meaning

Right now I have a blend resting of 4 equal parts:

At the moment the esters must be fighting each other because it doesn’t smell like much. Hopefully a bit more resting will bring out the flavours.

It mostly is curiosity that gets me blending: “How would this taste with that?”

“Fighting each other” is quite right. In my experience, blends of unaged rums need a lot of time to stabilise. Which aromas come forward and which get lost can swing back and forth dramatically. I’d give an unaged blend 2-3 months rest before I’d consider it done. Aged blends don’t seem to behave that way but I’ve mixed unaged blends that seemed balanced at the start, got dominated by one component after a week or two and the other component a couple of weeks later.

5g/5g/30g/10g (using scales and going by weight is just easier)

The rosé notes didn’t make it through and the glue notes seem to distract from other flavours, could use more tropical fruits. Using just the Papalin 5 as the high ester component would probably work out better. The notes from the TCRL Hampden hold up well if not too well, the dark notes from the Diamond are barely there.

I’ll probably try a 25:50:25 blend of Papalin 5:TCRL Hampden:Diamond MDR next but not today.

It’s definitely fun to create your own blend. :+1:

We even had a Home Blend Online Community Tasting. That was pretty exciting. I’m also looking forward to Part 2 :hugs::hugs::hugs:

I thought that at first too, but it’s actually real volcanic rock. It looks mighty, but it’s very light.

I find the 57% a little better than this one, but the 47% is still good imo. I have introduced quite a few people to ester this way

They should not sell too many of these bottles, otherwise Nicaragua will shrink significantly.

When the bottle is empty, you can use the stone to remove calluses on your feet.
