As you know, it has a very high rating of 9.3. However, the price is also extremely high, which makes me hesitate about buying it.
That said, I’m willing to pay a premium for a truly great rum if it’s worth the money.
I really love the minty, cooling sensation that can sometimes be found in agricole rum — I mean the fresh, cool mint-like character, rather than grassy notes. I’ve noticed this especially in the HSE 2003 and 2005 vintages. Would you say the Reimonenq 2007 Millésime has a similar character?
I’ve also seen some people suggest that paxarette may have been used. I’m a little concerned that this might make the rum excessively sweet.
For those who have actually tasted it, do you think it is genuinely delicious and worth the price?
Without any doubt, it is an absolutely outstanding rum, my personal highlight of last year! I had given 94 pts. It is extremely complex for its age, dried fruits, currants, orange peel, beeswax…difficult to grasp everything. Some members might have samples left from their bottles. So you could try prior to purchase.
Edit: the minty-cool character, you are looking for, was not as pronounced, as you would have in some of the early 2000 TDLs, though.
I really appreciate your offer to send me a sample. However, unfortunately, I live in South Korea, so I imagine it might be quite a hassle for you to send one all the way here. I truly appreciate the thought, though.
Do you think Reimonenq’s agricole rum has some distinctive characteristics compared to agricole rums from Martinique or other distilleries in Guadeloupe?
that is quite a tough question I guess the variety is just too big for an answer such as I like Guadeloupe more than Martinique. However, from the ReimonenQs I tried so far, I can say, that I was positively surprised. For instance, I also quite liked the RX1992. If you like the old Velier Damoiseaus, (which have some melasse share as far as I know), you surely will enjoy the Mil. 2007
The website is trustworthy and is the local online shop Guadeloupe. As they are a french department, the bottle is send inside EU, so no import tax. I bought a bottle there.
See my ratings on this one and the 12y hors d‘age. The Reimonenqs are special and outstanding
