I’ve wanted to write this for a while. Not sure I’ll nail it. But here goes.
2018. My apartment in Stuttgart. Late nights programming after my day job. I built a little app called Rum Tasting Notes. No plan. Just the idea that rum lovers deserve a place to share honest opinions.
I never imagined this would lead to where we are today.
Savanna, one of my favorite rum producers, has agreed to dedicate one of their finest casks to this community. To you.
Let me tell you how this happened.
The first sip
July 2024. Restaurant Blanc, Paris. Savanna poured an early cask sample. I took a sip and went quiet. 17 years in the tropics. Rich. Complex. Perfectly balanced. The kind of rum that just stops you.
I couldn’t let it go. Months of going back to the Savanna team. Asking. Pushing. Probably being a pain. Samuel, if you’re reading this, sorry. And thank you. 
But it wasn’t just me.
It was you
The Savanna Masterclass. Many of you tasted the sample. The reaction blew me away. Your notes. Your excitement. Your conviction that this cask is something special.
That’s what convinced Savanna. Not me. You.
They saw a community that doesn’t just drink rum, it understands rum. And they decided this cask belongs in your hands.

At Whisky Live Paris 2025 we did a surprise tasting. The community scored it 9.0 out of 10. Top 2% of all rums on RumX. One of only 11 Savanna bottlings to ever hit that mark.
