A comparison of the Barbados 1986 Rockley

After reading various reviews, I’ve noticed that, although taste is subjective, the general consensus seems to favor RA over SS.

I’m curious which you preferred between DT and Nobilis.

I’d especially like to hear from anyone who has tried all four bottlings — RA, SS, DT, and Nobilis. How would you rank them in order of preference?

I’ve had RA and Nobilis 1986, and they’re both really good. I would still rank RA above because i find it more balanced and well done, the Nobilis is more prominent on the smoke and the wood and less on the honey. I’d love to try the others!

I added some comparison notes of a couple of 1986 bottlings. Have a look if interested

For example on RX7784.

I’ve compared the 4 with each other more often. RA is definitely the king! You’ll find more details in my tasting notes…

Back then I was able to compare all Bristol and the available SS, DT and RA models at that time, and I definitely found RA in first place, closely followed by the SS. I thought the DT was the worst, and from today’s perspective I’d probably put the Nobilis in second or third place since it’s also really extremely good. But the RA was definitely champions league!

Feel free to read my tasting notes sometime too.:victory_hand:t3:

RA > Silver Seal > Nobilis > DT.

Overall in terms of balance, flavors, and complexity, the RA is already incredibly good. Definitely one of the best rums in the world for me. Such a distinctive profile exists only once. One of the unicorns that I haven’t managed to snag as a barrel yet.

Actually, are they still some of the 86 casks around? Wonder if Scheer has any of them, I’d definitely be in if you were to bottle a Rockley
