Rum shops recommendation in Amsterdam and The Hague

Hi,

I’m going to be visiting both mid May.

Any advice on which shop to go to would be greatly appreciated please :folded_hands:

Thanks

Hey Rom,

happy to hear that you are visiting those two beautiful cities.

I can mainly share insights about The Hague, which is not very exciting when it comes to Rum. Most shops only have the standard selection, the only one that stands out with a nice selection is Drank.nl in the Molenstraat. It is nice to have a look around but I had the impression that it is far more expensive than any other shop so I never bought anything from there, despite their good service. Other shops like Drinkxx in the Prinsestraat have a decent collection but are in my opinion only worth visiting if you are nearby anyway. It’s not rum but you could also check out the Van Kleef Distillery if you wanna try some local spirits.

There’s a Tiki Bar called Vavoom! with nice drinks at Grote Markt, but beware the queue at night. Those drinks take time…

If you happen to be also into coffee I can recommend my two favorites (Ief&Ido and Tigershark Coffee) as well as all the other good option (Duck Rabbit, Kaafi, NIAH, Perron X Coffee, Roast Factory etc.)

Thanks Henry,

I had a good look at Drank.nl which seems nicely priced and made a pre-selection. So if you think they are expensive im curious to see how cheap the others are. Actually I can’t seem to find Drinkxx, ill keep searching. (edit: found it! https://www.drinxx.nl/)

Thanks for the Tiki Bar an coffee shop recommendation too.

PS: here’s what ive saved from Drank.nl, I buy a lot from France too and these seems like decent price, where do you find even cheaper please?

PS2: I wrongly assumed you were in the UK, so now I understand what you said about prices, Germany definitely has the best prices, not many are willing to ship to France though

By the way since it looks like you know a lot about the finest things in life I don’t suppose you can also recommend a cigar shop there ? :folded_hands:

Officially not the Hague, but in Rijswijk (more or less a suburb of the Hague these days):

Passie voor whisky

Should be easy to reach with public transport.

Yep, as you said in Germany. But when living in The Hague I also ordered from https://drankdozijn.nl/, which is quite cheap, and visited this store in Leiden dedruiventuin.nl (not much cheaper though).

I seldomly smoke but know of De Graaf and La Casa del Habano. No idea if they are any good though.

Speaking about Zuidam distillery I only tried this one: Buy TBRC Zuidam Flying Dutchman The Netherlands | RumX and I really like it, would rate 7.7, anyone tried anything else from them?

(the ratings on RumX aren’t great to be honest)

From Zuidam I had the 3 years:

Zuidam 3y Flying Dutchman

Not sure if it is already in the RumX database since this is a different bottle.

I was pleasantly surprised by this rum. As it does not come from a typical rum producing country, I expected something bland and meh. However there was quite some flavor, nothing amazing though. For me the best part was that the sherry cask is not an overly sweet one, but more the dry sherry kind. The barrels seem to have been quite wet though because at times it tastes like you drink a 50/50 mix of sherry and rum. The dryness of the sherry goes well with the caramel of the rum. Decent easy sipper.
