Erstens ist nach der Reise mit DPD sowieso Therapie nötig, und zweitens wohnen die nicht allein im Regal, der 2002 wird dort in die Familie aufgenommen – also keine Sorge

Some new additions from rum auctioneer, not overly happy with how they arrived however, both seals seemed to have leaked… i hope its not a repeat of @MoparRules experiance!

To know you have to open them, but just smell them, you will know a lot about what’s inside. It doesn’t look good unfortunately.

Yes i did have a smell of them, obviously its quite oxidised, but the caroni in particular smelled correct. Ive sent them an email, i will see what they come back with.

Stupid question… Since both bottles have the same problem, could it result from the low pressure in the cargo compartment of the plane? Maybe in combination with dry cork.

Cargo holds are pressurized, same as cabin.

Im not sure, maybe? however i do buy from Europe pretty regularly and it hasnt been an issue to date. It just had to happen on the 2 most espensive bottles ive ever bought!
I paid for loss and breakage insurance so i will await rum auctioneers responce.

Yes, but usually they maintain a pressure below the normal value (at zero level).

I cross fingers! How was the presentation of the bottles on RA’s website? No leaks? They have at least the tax / customs seal which might indicate that they are not fake. But the leaking is of course frustrating. I assume you wanted to try them anyway and they were a good deal. But check with RA first whether they want it returned before you open.

Thanks mopar, yes they where presented as totally sealed bottles in good condition. The box was slightly damaged on the demerara but that didnt worry me. Yes i tend to agree regarding those tax seals, surely these cant be copied as well. I am awaiting RA s responce. Correct, definitly wont open anything for the moment.

Well, the glue that is used to attach them is water soluble, so I’d say it’s not much “protection” if the faker is dedicated – just keep that in mind.
However I agree, capsules and tax bands in your case(s) do make a good impression on the auction photo and don’t seem like they have been tampered with. If those end up to be fake, we can’t be sure of anything anymore.
