Local Communities
Hey everyone,
We just shipped something I’ve personally wanted on RumX for a long time: Local Communities.
The idea is simple. RumX has rum lovers in pretty much every country now, but the app has always been a bit lonely at the city level. You see the map, you see the avatars, and then… nothing. No way to actually say hi to the person two streets over who’s also into Hampden.
So we built a place for that. Each country has a subcategory below this one, and inside it lives one thread per city where there’s an active RumX user. That’s where you talk to your locals. Bars worth visiting, bottles worth splitting, tastings, meetups, trades, the whole thing.
How to use it
Find your country below. Open it. Look for your city. Post a reply and introduce yourself. Once you’ve posted, the thread will follow you around in /latest and you’ll get a notification whenever someone replies. Other cities stay quiet in the background so the forum doesn’t turn into noise.
If you want to follow an entire country (say you travel a lot in Italy), click the bell on the country category and set it to Tracking or Watching. Your call.
Your city isn’t there yet?
Then nobody has started it.
City threads can only be created from inside the RumX mobile app. Not from the forum. There’s a reason for that, and I want to be upfront about it: we want every local community to be started by someone who actually lives there and uses RumX. Not a drive-by forum account. The app already knows where you taste and where you live, so starting a thread from the app means the city is anchored to a real member from day one.
To start your city:

Open the RumX app.

Go to the Community tab and switch to the map view.

Find your city. If no thread exists yet, you’ll see a button to start one.

Tap it. The app creates the thread here, opens it for you, and you’re in.
Takes about ten seconds.
A few asks
One thread per city. If yours already exists, post in it instead of starting a parallel one.
Keep it about rum, the people drinking it, and the places to drink it. Tastings, meetups, splits, trades, recommendations, all good. Off-topic stuff has its own home elsewhere on the forum.
Be the kind of person you’d want to share a pour with.
If you don’t have the app yet
This whole feature lives in the app, alongside the catalog, your collection, your tasting notes, and the map. If you’ve been forum-only so far, this is a good moment to grab it.
