It seems Barbancourt starts to offer more interesting bottles above their standard range. This is a SC for Bar 1802 which spent the last months in an Isley cask.

Finde ich dann aber doch sehr hoch gegriffen. Wenn man sich mal anschaut welche Spirituosen Marken den höchsten Umsatz erzielen ist Mainstream wohl eher im Bereich unter 20 €. Selbst wenn es um die bloße Kenntnis von Hampden geht möchte ich ohne der Destillerie etwas abzusprechen behaupten das der Bekanntheitsgrad im Vergleich zu Don Papa und Co. doch eher gering ist außerhalb eingefleischter Communities.
Vielleicht bin ich auch nur so kritisch weil ich keinen „Mainstream“ für hunderte Euro trinken will

Ich sach’ mal so, wenn sich in einer
Szene auf einmal extrem viele Leute (auch die, die zwei Jahre vorher noch ihre Don Papa-Sammlung aufgebaut haben) auf ein jährlich erscheinendes Produkt (mit einer Auflage von immerhin >3000) stürzen, weil es nicht nur qualitativ gut, sondern weil es auch gerade irgendwie “hip” ist (und potentiell andere wirtschaftliche Vorteile bietet), dann bist du jedenfalls mittlerweile längst raus aus der reinen Nerd-Schiene!

Wir sollten so ein Fass mal für unsere Community erwerben und abfüllen.
(Natürlich nur bei einem annehmbaren Preis.)
Ich wäre dabei und könnte gegebenenfalls auch bei der Layout-Gestaltung beitragen.

I liked the look of the old labels and the even older ones too. But these look nice as well to me.
But it’s nothing new that (independent) bottlers work with (limited) series.
As long as the rum is good… And overall TWJ has an excellent reputation so far (also in whisky).

From a bottler marketing point of view I would also flood the market with maybe even higher priced “limited editions” to sell also average stuff to collectors. The warehouse must be emptied.
And there is lots of competition these days. No complaining.
From my consumers point of view I think nowadays often times “w.t.f…-are they kidding?”…
One of the best for me so far 
didn’t have any animals or flowers on the label and wasn’t released in a sexy black bottle - it had a rather boring design…:
But that’s old school…they also changed their marketing strategy…

Guter Tipp, danke! Coole Sache, dass solche Tastings veranstaltet werden aber der Preis schreckt mich schon ein wenig ab. Für 9 x 2cl Samples die anscheinend alle bis auf den Caroni auf 47% verdünnt sind und alle bis auf den Caroni und “Old Reserve Rum of Jamaica” relativ jung sind - ich weiß nich…
Macht hier jemand mit und kann seine Eindrücke im Anschluss teilen?

Find das auch (im wahrsten Sinne) ziemlich dünn von Bristol. Hatte mich schon in der jüngeren Vergangenheit gefreut dass Bristol etliches Neues hat, aber alles derart verdünnt, so ist es leider ich denke für die Meisten dadurch uninteressant. Schade dass man dort nicht mit der Zeit geht und die Abfüllungen in CS anbietet.

Volle Zustimmung. John Barrett hat sicher ziemlich einzigartiges Wissen, aber dafü alleine sind die 120€ zu viel. Die Rums sind überwiegend uninteressant und 97er Clarendon (? ) und 2010 Fiji löst auch keine Extasejaus. Der Caroni mtreibt den Preis sicher gewaltig.
Vielleicht gibt es das Tasting anschließend wieder auf Youtube. Das wäre super.
