Yesterday I decided to pit my 3 favorite (non-jamaican) rums against eachother. What I thought would be number 1 did indeed win; Foursquare! However I liked the Depaz a bit more than the CDI, which I didnt expect!
On my next opportunity I might see where Hampden LROK 2010 fits into the list, but I felt it would overpower my palette in a side by side with these rums.
This was my first comparative tasting, really fun to do. I had also mixed up the glasses after pouring them, so a fun little exercise was to identify them blind first.

It was. I just started experimenting yesterday with Hampden Overproof Batch 1. But I didn’t use enough ice in the shaker and ice cubes instead of crushed ice in the glass so it came out pretty strong and lime forward. To tame the lime a bit a made a second one with 1.5cl HV Savanna HERR and 4.5cl Hampden 8Y and crushed ice and around 0.7cl 1:1 syrup. It came out way more balanced.
Todays was the best so far. So next up I’ll return to the Overproof with the right ice and a small amount of 1:1 syrup.
It’s a lot of fun experimenting with the ingredients.
