In most tiki books, cocktails are made using a flash blend technique that involves using crushed ice and a milkshake mixer. These are quite affordable and not very loud.
Because they mix but do not cut up ice, they arent suited for use with larger ice cubes.
Do you really need a mixer/blender?
Thanks for the input! If by “milkshake mixer” you mean those small “1 serving” mix devices? That is indeed a category that I have not really looked at (I do remember an advertising show from my childhood featuring one of these things, I think it was red and called the (magic?) bullet blender or something along those lines).
Those do have the advantage that the footprint is rather small and they are easy to store away (they don’t need to live on the the kitchen counter).
Ha! What do we really need would be a whole new meta discussion so let’s not get into that and let me rephrase: I’m mainly looking for a device that allows me to put Pina Colada and frozen (Strawberry) Daiquiri on the menu. It sounds like that could be achieved by those machines, working in several batches should not be a problem, I rarely need more than 2 cocktails at a time.
I’ll look into those machines. I anyone has a recommendation in that direction, happy to hear it!

no big fun when you are out and the bora suprises you. croatia is known for that
I was injured once in Rovinj, trying to save my boat , when it struck…not good memories
This is a milkshake mixer
But, as you said, you need something to cut up ice cubes, which this will not do. So indeed something with a blade. If you want a blender that will last you the rest of your life, look at Vitamix and Blendtec. Those will last forever, wont get dull and have no problem going through ice cubes.
The milkshake mixers are mainly for tiki cocktails that are normally shaken with crushed ice. They improve the texture of the drink considerably when comparing mixed to shaken.
Hope that helps!
What agricoles are you guys using for cocktails? I have some more expensive bottles, but im looking for some budget friendly options here. An aged and unaged expression.
Ah, I see. Thanks for the clarification. I guess the devices I had pictured are called “smoothie mixer”.
