Sitting on the train back to Cologne. There was a timetable change anyway, so instead of 4.5 hours I would have been traveling for 5.45 hours.
But everything’s going wrong here, first the emergency brake triggered twice right at the start, then constant unplanned stops, then we went the wrong way and had to turn back, and now currently we’re running 120-135 minutes late.
Current ETA Cologne around 1:30 a.m. Then another approximately 30 minutes by car.
You just can’t make this up!!!

Hello, here’s a brief summary from me about the 15th GRF
the highlights:
- seeing some of you »in person« and having a bit of a chat.
- @skyfly with his bottles in his backpack, which we were allowed to taste (great stuff!)
- @Gunnar, the Bauerngaumen was omnipresent and once again had a nice sample for everyone who was willing to give a small blind tasting a try
- the Bottleshop stand: very good bottlings at fair prices and likable people at the stand
- Nobilis with the bottling by @KevinDK and @MoparRules
- Feller Rum with a great selection and refreshingly experimental
- the show by Alexandre Gabriel (less the tasting itself)
- once again a killer rum from Rom De Luxe
I also have some criticism (maybe someone is reading along?)
- a little more variety in the tasting program would be desirable
- the change in timeline for the tastings is suboptimal; the times on my previously purchased tickets didn’t match reality
- again no competition and no awards, very unfortunate
- I missed seating in the area between the entrance and the first stands, not everyone likes sitting in the sun

Well, if you’ve been working in this field for a while and maybe already done some research, there wasn’t really any groundbreaking new insight here. But I’m not that deep into the subject with all the chemical compounds, which specific compounds make up the flavor, and exactly how you create those 5000 ester monsters, so I found it really great.
It was a balancing act between a scientific presentation and entertainment. I’m pretty confident he could present it in a much more scientific way. In any case, it was a well-planned presentation, and since he’s a native English speaker, it was also very polished and fluent.
