I’m Markus from Munich, Germany, and I originally came from the whisk(e)y side of things. Curiosity and a desire for some variety eventually led me down the rabbit hole of other spirits: rum, Cognac, brandy, grappa, fruit brandies, sherry, vermouth, amari and, of course, cocktails.
When it comes to rum, I’ve tried around 300 so far, with a preference for unsweetened and aged rums. I still don’t have a favourite, though – apparently I haven’t tried enough yet. 
But to give you an idea of what I like, here are some rums I liked in no particular order: Chamarel VS, Doorly’s 12yo, Plantation Venezuela 2010/2022, Ron Isla Grande (all 4 of them), Rum Nation Jamaica 5yo, 1731 Venezuela 8yo, Cubaney 15, Dillon Vieux Cuvee
I usually only buy bottles I actually intend to drink, but somehow my collection has still grown to roughly 100 bottles of whisky/whiskey, plus another five open bottles, and around 50 bottles of other spirits, with roughly 20 more open bottles on my home bar trolley.
I’m trying hard to buy fewer bottles, so tastings, fairs and samples help me keep the bottle count somewhat under control. I still shy away from the effort of sharing bottles myself, though…
I joined RumX mostly out of curiosity and will probably be more of a reader than a regular poster. I’m looking forward to discovering new bottles, opinions and, inevitably, a few completely unnecessary purchase ideas.
